Here is an article published in the Harvard Business Review about what coaches can do for executives.  The survey suggests that coaching borrows from both consulting and therapy; consulting being more of an advisory role while therapy is more about asking the right questions.  I have found with my coaching clients that asking the right questions is much more powerful and transformative than giving suggestions.
